Aquarius New Moon - Relinquish Control and Plan Loosely in the Midst of Turmoil
Let’s welcome the first New Moon of 2025.
The Aquarius New Moon - January 29th, 7:35am at 9 degrees Aquarius
Cosmic Aspects:
Sun conjunct Moon (Aquarius)
Mercury conjunct Pluto (Aquarius)
Sun and Moon (Aquarius) trine Jupiter (Gemini)
Venus conjunct Neptune (Pisces)
Mars Rx (Cancer) trine Saturn (Pisces)
Neptune conjunct the North Node (Pisces)
Before we begin with the Aquarius New Moon astrology, I think it is important for us to address 3 astrological events that just recently transpired or will happen prior to the new moon that add to its flavor.
Node Shift from Aries/Libra to Pisces/Virgo
On January 11th the nodes changed signs. The north node is now in Pisces and the south node in Virgo and will remain there until July 2026. This shift is significant collectively and personally (for a personal interpretation, see which houses Pisces and Virgo occupy in your birth chart. The houses will indicate where you will see this impact most dramatically).
The north node asks for more of us in the realm of Pisces. It’s looking for creativity, compassion, spirituality, healing, intuition, dreaming, to see each other in ourselves, as we are all connected in the oneness of life and to relinquish the construct of control to the art of surrender. This may lead to an increase in the use of non-traditional medicines and healing modalities like meditation, astrology, herbology, reflexology, acupuncture, etc.
The downside of Pisces is our need to escape. Pisces are the zodiac’s best known escape artists, using escape as a coping mechanism, be it sleep, cinema, drug and alcohol, food, etc., so beware for an increase in this arena as well.
The south node in Virgo asks for less of us in Virgoan qualities. Less perfectionism, less being judgmental, critical and controlling.
The perfect blend is using the structure and organization of Virgo to help make our dreams (Pisces) come true. Don’t wait for everything to be perfect before you pull the trigger. Use your intuition alongside your logic to move more effortlessly. And understand that when obstacles seem Sisyphean there is no shame in surrender. Maybe the idea is good, but the timing is not. Be present, stop fighting what is, and instead learn to accept what is.
Pluto Cazimi
On January 21st, Pluto made a cazimi or entered the heart of the Sun. The Sun, our (collective or individual) core essence, vitality, drive, and motivation cast its penetrating light on Pluto, our subconscious, our desires, fears, and relationship with power, control and change. This should have been an eye-opening moment for us. It was an opportunity for us to take stock of how our drive and motivation may be spurred by our unconscious need for power, control or transformation. This too speaks to a moment of letting go. Letting go of unhealthy traits that are feeding our vitality, drive and will power.
Venus (Pisces) trine Mars Rx (Cancer)
On January 25th, Venus will trine Mars retrograde in Cancer. This is an emotional torrent. Mars is debilitated in Cancer. It innately prefers to move forward quickly and deliberately but in Cancerian waters, it is forced to adjust to the circuitous routing of the emotional riverbed. This can be experienced as frustrating or melancholic. Here we are being forced to deal with all the emotional sentiment surrounding nurturing. How do we care, nourish and provide for ourselves as well as others?
These three astrological aspects are offering us an opportunity to view the trajectory of our path in a different light and therefore add to the conversation of this Aquarius New Moon.
Aquarius New Moon
On January 29th, the Sun (our life force and ego) will conjunct the Moon (our emotions) and come together in logical and emotionally aloof Aquarius, the sign of the inventor and zodiac’s humanitarian. Asking, “What is fair and best for the common good sans the sentiment?”
Both the Sun and Moon have passed Pluto, the current gatekeeper of Aquarius. The Sun and Moon have had an opportunity to be vetted by Pluto, with a check under the hood to really determine what is fueling our will and emotions.
New Moon trine Jupiter in Gemini
The Aquarian New Moon strives for pragmatism. However, with Gemini’s ruler, Mercury, under Pluto’s transformative scrutiny, while the Sun and Moon are being pressured by a trine with expansive Jupiter in Gemini, the new moon's desire to find emotional harmony by balancing ideas with practicality may be like herding cats.
Jupiter in Gemini wants to go big, but with ideas in mutable Gemini, the way to go big may be fleeting and changing. As I have said in previous posts, personal emotional grounding is of the utmost importance, because our emotions will not be supported externally and this new moon is such an example.
Mercury conjunct Pluto in Aquarius
Also on the 29th, Mercury will conjunct Pluto. This is a melding of the conscious and unconscious minds. The stirrings of a deeper perspective within us starts to become more palpable. New ideas and truths are beginning to bubble up from our subconscious making themselves known to us.
Venus conjunct Neptune in Pisces
On February 1st, Venus will conjunct Neptune. Personally this aspect may bring about potential for a new romantic or personal connections, as this is quite the dreamy aspect. It offers us the opportunity to show up more compassionately and to connect spiritually. The flip side of this aspect arises if we choose not to face the harsh realities of negative relationships, then, this transit may be fraught with disappointment.
Mars Rx (Cancer) trine Saturn (Pisces)
On September 30th, 2024, we had the first trine of these two planets. It may have marked a time where we were feeling clearer on our path forward. We found solutions to obstacles, even if it was an internal change maybe in our conditioning or a firm held belief. At that time we gleaned a path of disciplined action married with emotional intelligence to move forward.
On February 6th, we will have a second trine of these two planets, which is an opportunity for us to revisit the actions to which we have committed ourselves. To determine if new perspectives gained and emerging rumbles are creating the necessity to tweek our plan.
Neptune conjunct the North Node (Pisces)
On February 7th 2025, Neptune the ruler of Pisces is preparing to end its stint in Pisces (2011- 2026) and in its final chapter will be conjunct the karmic north node. This combination of the North Node and Neptune culminating so closely to the anaretic degree of Pisces is once again a calling to release control and surrender to what Life is asking of us.
It's asking we dissolve control over outcomes, release our grip on overly fixated goals, loosen our excessive rigidity with our routines. The invitation is for us to soften and anchor ourselves in faith, trusting that everything is aligning and working out as it is meant to.
These are tumultuous times and in such times, we may instinctually lunge for a death grip on control. But the universe is asking for just the opposite. Have faith, even when it seems counter intuitive, that all is working towards our own betterment individually and collectively.
True surrender, does not mean to passively put up with whatever situation you find yourself in and to do nothing about it. Nor does it mean to cease making plans or initiating positive action. Surrender is the simple but profound wisdom of yielding to rather than opposing the flow of life.Eckhart Tolle
